The Grief & Loss Support Program was our first program and remains our core program. This is for children aged 6 to 11, experiencing grief and loss from traumatic situations at a young age be it through a death, illness, family separations and other big changes. At this stage of development children often feel the loss is their ‘fault’.
Our Program provides a supportive space for children to express their feelings, including their anger. With peer sharing and support, their grief is ‘normalised’ and they no longer feel alone. Children are helped to grow through their grief by using a mixture of story-telling, art activities, movement & music, breath work, stress reduction exercises, anger-management and mindfulness. They learn inner life skills to help with the healing process of grief and also to deal with future loss and change. Teamed with their very own PK Buddy, each child is given individualised support through their seven-week journey. The program is designed to help children tell their stories and express their feelings about the loss in a safe way. A separate Parents Group provides support for parents and caregivers to address their own grief along with how to provide support for their child through the process.
Over seven weekly sessions, the children learn to:
- Gain an understanding of the event as a loss.
- Tell the story to facilitate discussion about the loss.
- Grieve the loss and feel the feelings.
- Physically and creatively express strong feelings including anger … a natural response to loss (in a safe way).
- Deal with any “unfinished business” around the loss.
- Affirm and commemorate the loss, and look forward to the future.
- Claim a new sense of self and feel empowered to move on.
When You Contact Us
The first step of our process is an Initial Support Interview. The session provides a place for you, the parent or caregiver to discuss what your needs are and the best way we can provide the help. We recommend that you write down any questions and concerns you may have beforehand so you can discuss these at the session. We do Initial Support Interviews once a week, without children. After our discussion, your child is placed on a waiting list for the next available group in the following term. If our programs are not suitable, or your situation requires immediate attention, you may be referred to another onsite professional or another organisation.

Payment of fees is due two weeks before the term starts. Due to the demand for our programs, places often fill quickly. Your placement in our programs is only secure after payment of fees have been made. If you pay for a program but do not attend, no refund will be given. Cancellations made prior to the start of the program will be assessed and refunded /or credited. All of our programs are held over several weeks so it is important to attend all weeks. If two weeks or more are missed, the program may have to be re-taken to graduate at your own expense.
Refunds will be processed in the same way payment was made.
